Meet Your Editors

Hadley

Hadley Green

Neirad Enilno Co-Editor-Chief Hadley Green has been involved in the journalism program since her freshman year and on the Neirad staff since her sophomore year. Now a senior, Hadley’s favorite part of journalism is interviewing unique students in the school to find out what makes them tick and the quirky stories behind people who roam the halls everyday. Her favorite piece she has ever written is her profile on Class of 2008 artist Adam Campbell for the graduation issue. (see p. 3) Hadley is helping bring fashion coverage back to Neirad. She has had some amazing sartorial adventures in her quest to delive first-rate style coverage to Neirad. She traveled to New York to write about Balenciaga’s spring preview at its flagship store last spring (see p. 4) and has also written about her day spent with VH1 head stylist Alana Kelen. Hadley’s favorite part of journalism is that it truly makes the world go round; every day journalists are uncovering important information about people and news. She hopes to translate her journalism skills to a career that involves traveling the globe as a reporter. Her peripatetic life has prepared her for a job-on-the-go: Hadley lived in North Carolina and Saudi Arabia before moving to Darien. Hadley is looking forward to the new challenges working on Neirad Enilno because of its immediacy to update stories more frequently than the Neirad print edition. Hadley looks forward to delving into Web design by challenging herself to create pages that use more attractive fonts and backgrounds than the print edition. She believes the Web has added accessibility to Neirad and keeps alumni and past Neirad staff in tune with DHS coverage.

Hadley is a freshman at Miami University in Ohio.

Spencer

Spencer Matson

Spencer Matson is an Editor-in-Chief for the Neirad Enilno. He has been a part of the journalism program at DHS since his freshman year. Joining the Neirad staff in 2006, Spencer soon became interested in writing reviews and found himself critiquing everything from books (“Alan Weisman’s 'The World Without Us'”) and movies (“Semi-Pro Semi-Good Review”) to small principalities in Europe (“Little Ole Monaco”) and celebrity prenatal infants (“Spears Baby Forecast”) (see p 4) This year in his role as an online editor-in-chief, Spencer plans on broadening the readership of Neirad’s youngest branch. Besides Neirad, Spencer is a member of Post 53 and plays piano.

Spencer is a freshman at Johns Hopkins University.

Kim Michels

Kimberly Michels

Kimberly Michels is a Neirad Co-Editor-in-chief. You can call her Kim. Most kids call her "hey you." But mostly it is Kimberly. Now a senior, Kimberly has been in Neirad since her sophomore year. Her favorite stories to cover are usually investigative reporting. Some of her past articles include a profile on the Depot "Behind Smoke and Mirrors," (see p 3) and "Does DHS really Recycle?" (see p 1) Kimberly's reporting was recognized by the Journalism Education Association who named her Connecticut Student Journalist of the Year for 2008-09. Last year Kimberly worked as Neirad Enilno Web Editor-In-Chief. Before then Kimberly detested computers. They never worked for her and were constantly shutting down in the middle of an unsaved document. But through Neirad Enilno she actually learned how to turn a computer on properly. She also learned how to code documents which basically means she can speak computer. All in all, Kimberly simply loves Neirad. Her years in the newspaper have only further instilled in her the importance of both a newspaper's print and online work. She is proud of Neirad even amidst controversy and late deadlines. As Co-editor-in-Chief Kimberly looks forward to working with the new design and enjoying the fact that no one can yell at her anymore for her absurdly long articles. You can expect to see her next year either with a notebook in hand, staring down an interviewee, stressing out, or chucking a computer across the room.

Kimberly is a freshman at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.

Kelsey O

Kelsey Ott

Kelsey is the co-editor-in-chief of Neirad Enilno, the online edition of Neirad that was started last year. As online editor, Kelsey wants to transform Neirad Enilno from a lesser-known branch of the DHS Web site to a primary news source for students. Kelsey, a junior, is also on the softball team and the ski team, and is on the yearbook staff.

Kelsey is now a senior and a co-editor-in-chief of Neirad print.

Kevin Ramsey

Kevin Ramsey is a Design Director for Neirad. Kevin has been contributing to Neirad since his freshman year, after which he decided he wanted join the program full time and became a staff writer, initially writing sports stories before moving on to reviews. In his junior year, Kevin used his skills in design to expand the Neirad's visual department and used special effects to make the print edition more appealing to readers. In winter of 2007, Kevin, then Photography Editor, worked on creating a brand new design for Neirad with one of the Editors-in-Chief at the time, Lindsay Gordon. Kevin and Lindsay submitted their ideas to Josh Klenert at Billboard magazine, who responded with a fantastic redesign.
