Meet Your Editors

Kevin Cassidy
Business Manager
Kevin Cassidy is the Business Manager of Neirad. He hopes to follow in Class of 2009 Tally Thoren’s great success to keep the ad accounts in the black. Kevin was recruited for this position by the Neirad editorial team last spring. They felt his hard work, integrity and commitment to Neirad made him a standout candidate. Kevin will aim to raise about $10,000 for Neirad in the 2009-10 academic year. In Kevin’s free time he enjoys being a member of Post 53 and playing hockey.

Claire Dickson
Design Editor
This is the first year that Claire Dickson has been a design editor for Neirad. During her time, she hopes to continue to uphold the integrity of the redesign of the paper, and continue to give the kids at DHS a look into what's going on in their school. She's delighted to be an important part of Neirad, and looks forward to the 2009-2010 year. Claire began on the Neirad team in her Introduction to Journalism class in 2008. She learned many things during that class from Ms. Wilkins, but she was always interested in design. While she learned to do design, she wrote many stories such as the Cribs article of May 2009 and, with the help of co-writer Elizabeth Crafford, wrote a story about James Geddes for last year's April Fool's issue.

Britt Gordon
Print editor
Britt Gordon is a Neirad co-editor-in-chief. He has been involved in the journalism program since the beginning of his junior year. Ever since he enrolled in the program, Britt has been very enthusiastic and involved in Neirad and loves writing stories for the print and digital formats. His favorite part of journalism is interviewing different students and teachers and getting to know the unique story of each individual. Britt also enjoys helping Neirad reporters improve their writing and for this reason is excited about being an editor this year. He likes writing hard news stories because he believes this is what is most important in journalism and likes to provide the public with pertinent information about recent events. A few of the stories he had the most fun writing were “Whole Foods Breaks Ground” and “What’s For Lunch?”. As Editor of Neirad this year, Britt hopes to integrate print and online more and get readers to be interested in both, as well as attract more students to Neirad by publishing more interesting articles. As a senior, Britt, whose real name is Kilbourn, is on the tennis and squash teams and has leadership positions in both the China Care Club and Person to Person.
Katie Grozier
Online editor
Katie Grozier is a co-editor for the Neirad Enilno . Katie was recruited during her sophomore and has always had a love for journalism. Katie’s first piece for Neirad took a look at the students' trip to Qingdao for the China Exchange Program last spring (See page 9) As a junior this year, Katie is excited to become more involved with Neirad to develop new multimedia on Neirad Enlino and learn more about the changing face of journalism this generation will help drive forward.

Parker Lange
Online editor
Junior Parker Lange is an editor-in-chief for Neirad Enilno and has been part of the journalism program at DHS since his sophomore year. He has always had an interest in writing, reporting about a wide variety of topics. Some of Parker's stories include "We Don't Want to See Your Face on Facebook" in the mid-April print issue last year (see page 2) and a story on the baseball team in last year's May print issue. (See page 12) This year Parker looks forward to making Enilno a more popular source for news than Neirad print. He is also offended that sophomore Jay Alter has plans to take his role as print editor next year.

Meg Murphy
Sports Editor
Sports Editor Meg Murphy is the only student who has been on the Neirad staff since her freshman year. She chose journalism as an elective in 8th grade before moving here from New Jersey, never imagining she would remain a staff writer for the next four years. She was here for Ms. Wilkins’s arrival, when Neirad only consisted of one class, and witnessed the incredible re-design. Her junior year, she was the assistant sports editor working with former sports editor Jorden Cappiello. The two of them turned the sports page from chaos into pure success. In addition to covering sports, Meg also writes feature articles such as a story on freshman hazing and "Celebrating Brazilian Life". (see page 3) Her favorite story she covered was a "Cribs" feature where she got to take a look into the late Charles Lindbergh’s house. (see page 9) Now a senior, she plans to keep the sports page fresh by featuring a wide range of sports and athletes.
Kelsey Ott
Print editor
Kelsey Ott is one of the three editor-in-chiefs of the Neirad print edition. She joined the Neirad staff her sophomore year, but has always had an interest in journalism. Last year Kelsey was a co-editor-in-chief of Neirad Enilno, the online edition of Neirad that was started two years ago. Her favorite part of her year as web editor was creating the Gossip Girl-themed layout for last year's April online issue. Although not personally a Gossip Girl fan, she loved learning many new Photoshop and Dreamweaver skills. Kelsey has learned all about formatting pictures and laying out articles on the web, and is now transferring her skills to the world of print media. Some of her more recent past articles include a profile on Mike Muney for last year's graduation issue (see page 4), a news story on Mr. Michael Sullivan replacing retiring Mr. Doug Rubin as vice principal in this year's September issue, (see page 1) and a review on the new Dave Matthews Band album. (see page 3) As print editor, Kelsey wants each issue to be dynamic, having varied topics and style of coverage to appeal to all readers, with good graphics to attract interest. Kelsey, a senior, is also on the softball team and the ski team, and is on the yearbook staff.

Emily Pik
Print co-editor
Emily Pik is a Neirad co-editor-in-chief this year. She started journalism last year, and now as a senior she’s psyched to be working on the Neirad staff. During her junior year she wrote articles for both online and print, learning the ins and outs of writing and reporting. Emily’s favorite part of journalism is meeting the new people that she gets to interview for her stories. She loves writing about anything ordinary and finding a different aspect to it that makes it intriguing. Her favorite piece she’s written is the Struggle Downtown, a story about the economic situation in Darien during the recession. She hopes to write more articles like it where she can be a true reporter and investigate her topics. She is excited to implement the great things that last year’s editors have done with the new design layout and learn more about it in the process. Emily can’t wait for a great new year and to work with a talented staff to continue the success of Neirad from the past year.
