Marcia Kasony’s name is synonymous with freshmen math class. But, then, again, there are not many courses this multifaceted math teacher has not taught in her department. "This year I’m also teaching algebra II and honors precalculus. In other years I’ve also taught geometry," Ms Kasony said.

Ms. Kasony has been working at Darien High School for 32 years. But come next year she will no longer be with us.

Ms. Kasony plans at the moment extend to the practical.  "I have no concrete plans yet, but I'm putting an addition on my house, which I’m very excited about," Ms Kasony said.

Ms Kasony did not fall into this profession. It was an aspiration that began when she was just a mere high school student in Youngstown, Ohio.

“I’ve always known I would be a teacher, in college it was either engineering or teaching. But I could never see myself teaching an English class.”

Along with her love for her academic discipline, Ms. Kasony loves helping her students succeed. “Knowing that you have made a difference in someone’s life will be what I will miss the most. Another thing I enjoy is seeing students mix together and stepping outside of their friend groups.” The one aspect of her job Ms. Kasony will not miss is the papers she had to bring home every night to grade.

Anyone who knows Ms. Kasony knows that she wears very interesting outfits. Her purple eagle sweater, her golf and Halloween vests and her dress with the shoes on it: Ms. Kasony possesses a colorful fashion sense. Her favorite aspect of her wardrobe is her necklace collection. The jewelry ranges from beads to oyster shells. “ I love my necklace collection, they are so fun!”

Students will miss Ms. Kasony’s math class and waving to her in the hall. Senior Alden Frelinghuysen who had her freshmen year said, “Ms. Kasony is very charismatic.” Freshman Matt Brown said, “Ms. Kasony’s enthusiasm and love for math are refreshing and her outfits keep me coming back everyday.”

Ms. Kasony was not only a beloved teacher but also head of the teacher’s union. The position required many hours of dedication to help foster the best possible working situation for the faculty.  In this capacity, Ms Kasony meets with teachers from lower school, middle school and the high school.  The person who will take over Ms. Kasony's role with the teacher's union is Middlesex math teacher Daniel Kensek.

Although Ms. Kasony is leaving she will never be forgotten by the students. Freshmen Caroline Macomber said, “so spunky” referring to the attitude Ms. Kasony shows every day during math class. Ms. Kasony has touched her students and her co- workers with her happy persona and her crazy cool clothes. Thank you Ms. Kasony for all your dedicated years.
