Hot in the Lot
Freddy Weber’s 2005 VW Jetta
NEIRAD enilno editionAlthough it seems like everyone at DHS drives a VW these days, it’s actually because VW owners have some the freshest rides. Freddy Weber’s 2005 Jetta is no exception, and is as rap artist Dorrough says, ‘clean on the outside,’ without the ice cream paint job.
Freddy purchased the Jetta used in early 2009. It took some convincing to get his parents approval but eventually they agreed to let him buy a car. Being a German vehicle, it’s heavy but also very safe in the case of an accident. This helped to convince Mr. and Mrs. Weber that this was the right car to buy.
“I love the Jetta because it’s fun to drive and easy to modify,” Freddy said. With a 2.5L 5 cylinder engine the Jetta is pretty peppy from the start even though it’s not necessarily classified as a fast car. Freddy’s car has 17” TSW wheels, smoked side markers, 35% tint, and LED license plate bulbs. In the future Freddy plans on lowering the car on H&R springs and Bilstein shocks in order to reach his desired ride height and improve upon handling.
One might ask how Freddy came to learn all he knows about his VW. He explained, “Jetta MKV, an online forum, is what my inspiration was. I love being able to see what other people do to their cars.” Other Web sites like VWvortex and Stanceworks give Freddy a great idea of what he wants his car to look like in the future. Many of the cars on these sites have over $10K into them though, which is hard to come by as a DHS student.
“The only thing I’d like to change would be the way the car drives in the snow,” Freddy said. Being front wheel drive, the car is better than many other cars on the road, but can still easily get stuck without the proper tires and driving techniques.
Volkswagen has some of the most unique cars it seems when compared to the rest of the German car companies. Stretched tires over polished BBS wheels, lowered on airbags, shaved emblems are all pretty unique to Volkswagens. Like Young Cesar says, “candy paint, BBS, you know how the story goes.” “The Volkswagen scene is what got me into modifying the car,” Weber said.
This is our last "Hot in the Lot" of the school year. From the Neirad Enilno automotive desk we wish all DHS drivers a summer of happy road tripping! We will be back in September with junior Mike Gentile and his 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX.
