The world of Darien is full of wandering students, all looking for a good and cheap bite to eat. As pizza is the worlds’ number one choice for a meal (with 350 slices being eaten in the United States every second), we set out to find Darien’s best pizza place in quality, service, and price.

Pizza, Pasta, and Brew

Pizza, Pasta, and Brew

A small, Italian home-style restaurant on Tokeneke Road, it provides an area for pick-up, separate from the dining area. The pizza can be bought in a personal fashion or as a full pie for the group. It’s not too greasy, but if you don’t like grease, it may not be the way to go. Pizzas start at $10.50 and toppings will add a bit of a higher price. Also, go on Friday if you like garlic knots… they’re free!

Post Corner Pizza

Post Corner Pizza

A personal Darien favorite, Post Corner Pizza located on the Post Road provides us with a Greek feel rather than Italian. Walking into the huge dining area, we spotted many old couples, young couples, and even a DHS grad from 2008! Post Corner offers a different texture as the slices are square, but the pizza is extra cheesy and, as a result, extra greasy. One small cheese pizza costs about $7.95 after a 20 minute, satisfying meal.

Four Brothers

Four Brothers Pizza

Tucked away in the corner of Goodwives Shopping Center, Four Brothers pizza is less of a restaurant for dining and more of one for take-out, as more people were seen taking out than eating in. A restaurant run by a family, you get the family feel the minute you walk in the door as you can see the latest soccer game on the TV. The pizzas are made fresh with little grease, nice spices, and we had a very wide selection to choose from. Our small cheese pizza came to $8.43, a little more than its competitor, PCP, but the quality was worth the price.

Bertucci's

Bertucci’s

On the edge of Darien, down the Post Road, Bertucci’s is a large chain that made us feel like it was family run. The restaurant’s motto “What’s not to love?” holds true as you can see the chefs making the pizzas nearby and baking the heavenly bread rolls fresh. The restaurant provides both personal and group sized pizzas, and, unlike others, the pizza comes on thin crust rather than the normal thick. Pizzas aren’t too greasy and have the perfect amount of sauce and cheese. With courtesy to sit-in customers, Bertucci’s has their take-out section in another, separate part of the restaurant to keep service organized and efficient. Pizzas start at $9.50 and the price rises as the variety increases.

Heights

Heights

A more take-out oriented business, Heights pizza offers seats in the restaurants for in-restaurant dining as well as a delivery service. Heights is a true, Italian pizza place and the waiters and delivery people are as nice as nice can be. Heights offers three pizza sizes (small, medium, and large) and, on top of wonderful pizza, offers traditional Italian meals such as chicken parmesan and a variety of pastas. Pizzas tend to have big slices, minimal grease, and good, thick crust. Oh, and they deliver to the library and DHS!

Next month Neirad Enlino continues its quest to track down the best pizza. Megan Archey heads over to Stamford to sample Hope Pizza.
