Up, Up, and Away to Clubs
NEIRAD enilno edition
Load printer friendly version Nicole Granath is a Superwoman in disguise. At first glance, one may see a seemingly happy junior who roams the hallways minding her own business. However, she is more than this incomplete vision. Nicole is a hardworking student who strives for the best. She is an exemplary mathematician and even more extraordinary at debate. In addition to that, she is a member of both Current and Neirad, and is the Vice President of the Community Council. “I participate in as many clubs and activities as my schedule allows because I love being involved in the school community. Each club represents a unique interest that I enjoy exploring,” Nicole said.
Nicole is an excellent student whom most teachers already know. Nicole’s Neirad adviser, Stacey Wilkins, refers to her as “the one and only Nicole.” Nicole earns this honor with the work that she does and all the clubs in which she is involved.
Nicole's Top 5 Albums:
- All That You Can't Leave Behind or The Joshua Tree (it's too hard to decide!), by U2
- Wildflowers, by Tom Petty
- Innervisions, by Stevie Wonder
- Like Vines, by The Hush Sound
- Join the Band, by Little Feat
Math team: the one and only club in which people compete with numbers. Nicole is one of the team club members and participates at most practices. She is a devoted club member and tries her best to make it to all the meetings. “She is sincere and committing,” senior Suneil Raghvan said.
Furthermore, Nicole tries her best and is among eight of the varsity debate members. Nicole and Rahul Datta, a fellow junior, came in second place in the varsity division at a debate tournament on October 24. Nicole also won the best individual speaker award. Talk about achieving the highest goal. What makes Nicole such an extraordinary speaker? “I try to give each debate my best effort,” she said. “She’s good at debate,” Debate Captain, senior Andrew Gagne agreed.
One would think that excelling at math and public speaking is just amazing, but Nicole is also an accomplished writer. Nicole holds the talent that every student wants, the power to succeed. She is a loyal Current member and an even more committed Neirad writer through her Independent Study project. Check out her Independent Study project that is linking schools across Fairfield County. It is amazing what one student can hold. Every year, she completes many articles and even wrote a poem for Slamtober.
For Community Council, Nicole was in charge of this year’s Homecoming festivities. As Vice President, she has a lot on her plate and can handle the pressure of owning a high position. With her ability to get work done with such high quality, it shouldn’t be much of a problem. “Everything that I do for the Community Council is to further the organization's pledge to represent the student body, coordinate activities--both educational and fun--for the school community, and to give back to the larger community. I hope to enrich our school community by responding to the student body's needs with effective solutions. One example of this is our decision to open a computer lab in the morning, when the library becomes very crowded,” Nicole said.
Nicole is sure to be successful in life and is already accomplished right now. As she keeps soaring, she influences others to strive alongside her. Nicole is devoted to many clubs and encourages others to get involved. What is her motivation to be so determined in all these clubs? “I do not believe in participating in a multitude of clubs for the purpose of resume-building … I go to all the clubs I’m interested in.” Someone comparable to her truly deserves the name Superwoman.
