Sleek style, luxury at its finest, and a temporary emergency response vehicle can all be attributed to this month’s Hot on the Lot car of interest—Emy Gruppo’s black 2007 Audi A4.
So how did this 17-year-old land in such a magnificent ride?
“On my brother’s birthday my parents told him he would be able to bring the Audi station wagon to Kenyon [College] sophomore year. I wondered all that night what we were going to do with three family members and two cars! The next day we went to a used Audi lot and I got to pick out the color and interior!” Emy says of the purchase.
Although Emy only knows what type of engine her car has, she doesn’t have the passion for motors like her boyfriend, junior, Andrew Wood. He told Neirad Enlino everything it needed to know about what’s under the hood of this A4.
“Yeah, it’s got an inline four-cylinder, 2.0 liter engine. Stick shift. It’s really nice.” Andrew says.
Winter is just around the corner, and I asked Emy how she is feeling about her A4 in the snow. “It’s a quattro,” she says. “It has 4-wheel drive like most Audis. I haven’t driven this car in the snow yet, but the station wagon was great in bad weather, so I expect great things from my A4.”
And like most teens, Emy keeps far too many things stored in her car. From her jump kit for Post 53, to extra clothes and shoes, to a doll named, Ruby, and a plush panda bear named, Pooky.
“I keep everything in my car. The most important thing is probably my extra pair of shoes in case I leave the house without them…it’s happened before…” Emy adds.
Emy is never alone in her A4 when she travels. A souvenir doll from Aruba, named Ruby, from her friend, senior Kylerose Delaney, is usually in the backseat.
“Everyone thinks she is so creepy! But actually, she’s awesome. And I don’t care if people think I’m crazy for having Ruby in the car, people think I’m crazy because of other the junk I keep in my car, too!” Emy says of her driving companion.
Emy has not been obsessed with “tricking out” her ride; but she does have a few decals on her bumper, Mardi Gras beads on the rearview mirror, and even emergency green lights on the dashboard and rear window!
“I got the monogram magnet for my 17th birthday, and I have an EMS star of life because I am a Post 53 tool. The Mardi Gras beads are from all the parties I have gone to. I mix and match the colors to make a combination that really suits me and adds individuality to my black Audi.”
Emy is a member of Post 53 and has emergency green lights from Tactical Dynamics that she has in case she needs to respond to a call from her house or a location other than the Post 53 Headquarters.
“I have never used them, but my boyfriend, Andrew, and his friend, junior, Jamie McEwan, had fun installing them in my car. They are pretty sick, I hope I can use them someday.”
The next time you see a black Audi A4 rolling through the DHS parking lot, look twice, it could be Emy Gruppo’s, one that has become more than any usual A4 one would see in this town. An offbeat personality that is so uniquely Emy’s, has been completely integrated to this ride that is totally Hot on the Lot.
