Over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend while most DHS students were busy studying for midterms, Community Council president Amy Marchesi and Neirad business manager Tally Thoren took an adventure of a lifetime down to Washington D.C. to witness history. On January 21 the first African American President Barack Obama was inaugurated. All through the weekend festivities and concerts covered the Mall as crowds of people looked on. Here's a look at their trip and their witnessing of “Hope, Progress, and Change.”

People gathered around the Lincoln Memorial on January 19th in support of Barack Obama. Guest speakers included Tiger Woods, Tom Hanks, and Jack Black Guest performers included Shakira, Usher, Black Eyed Peas, and others.
Amy and Tally were lucky enough to have tickets to get them onto the Capital lawn however the crowds still kept them a distance from the country’s capital.
