Most people walking through the halls of Darien High School don’t seem to notice the amount of makeup some girls pile on their faces. When asked the question, “do you wear makeup on a daily basis”, 17 out of 20 students replied “yes.”

“Most female students at DHS tend to wear makeup but not a huge amount of it, just a little bronzer and mascara,” senior Katie Marren said.  These students, along with many others in DHS, know the boundaries and how to not “overdo” the amount of makeup on their faces.

However, some believe that to look good, putting cosmetics on in the morning involves caking on bronzer and drowning eyes in eyeliner, mascara, and eye shadow. Although this overly done look may be the style for some girls, and a way to show unique fashion sense, the amount of makeup students pile on their faces hides their natural beauty.  “I prefer not to wear a lot of make up for a more natural look,” senior Kristen Rossbach said.

To understand the male perspective on the amount of makeup some wear, Neirad Enilno polled students. “Too much makeup is a turn-off because it hides their face but a little bit is good because it makes their already beautiful features more noticeable thus they get complimented more,” senior Matt Ligouri said.

Sophmore Carter Cordner agrees, “I think it can make girls look better but not when they use so much that their face looks fake.” These two opinions truly point out that the amount of cosmetics on a girl’s face can really make a difference.  Ligouri agrees with sophomore Charlotte Phillips when she makes the point that make up is not really the first thing you notice about people.

It has also been told that many male high school students tend to like the looks of college girls instead of high school girls because of the difference of amount of makeup on their faces. “College girls are hotter because they wear less,” sophomore Dimitri Chargares said.

Senior Alex Hamill admits to wearing only some bronzer and eyeliner to school, which is all a person really needs for an average school day.  Other female students agree with Hamill, the simple eyeliner and or mascara seem to be popular throughout the DHS community.  But why do only three out of 20 students not wear makeup? Phillips says, “I don’t really wear makeup because I’m too lazy in the mornings. I don’t want to be someone who has to depend on it to go out in public.” No matter the amount of face paint the girls pile on, they will continue to shine and brighten up the halls.
