As Jack Johnson’s CDs develop from an upbeat sound, to a slightly more serious note, (slightly being the operative word) one cannot help but get sucked in, and loving every second of every song. Jack Johnson is not reserved for only teenagers and 20-year olds; anyone will be able to listen to this tidal wave that is Jack Johnson’s music.

From the start In Between Dreams has great lyrics, and an incredibly smooth guitar that makes the world suddenly seem better; even if it is only for three minutes and 11 seconds. Starting with songs like ”Better Together” and “Banana Pancakes,” the CD kicks off with a cheerful mood to bring a smile to anyone’s face. This mood is most definitely brought on by the Hawaiian native’s professional surfing background.

Jack Johnson later develops his style of music in his CD Brushfire Fairytales, even though he does have a couple of extremely fun songs, he does start to develop songs like “Flake,” with more serious lyrics.

But now his ‘new’ CD, Sleep Through the Static, which came out last February set record sales. The album started as number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling about 375,000 copies in its first week, including 139,000 digital downloads. This was a record high for weekly digital album sales. It also started at number one on the worldwide chart selling of 577,000. It also held the record for iTunes downloads, until Coldplay’s new CD, Viva La Vida, came out.

Sleep Through the Static also brought about a new sense of Jack Johnson; it showed he could write serious songs, such as “Angel,” or “Adrift,” but at the same time he can play songs like “If I Had Eyes,” which is more lively, and upbeat, to the sensational lyrics of  the song, “Sleep through the Static,” which is also the title of his new album.

Sleep Through The Static was probably the international sensation it was because of the amazing lyrics, such as “in or out of love, I doubt I’m gonna win you back, when you got eyes that, that wont let me in.” (If I had Eyes) and “Who need sleep when we’ve got love? Who needs keys when we’ve got clubs? Who needs please when we’ve got guns?” These lyrics are just a sampling of the great original lyrics that Jack Johnson has penned for his latest CD.

Johnson really brings his personality to his songs, no matter which CD, no matter which song, and that is why people keep getting swept away by this sensational music. So if you are struggling to find a gift for that hard-to-shop-for-person then think about Jack Johnson’s new CD. It is a great chill gift for just about everyone.
